There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Cortegada (7-15) defeated higher ranked Rioja (15-7) in Azkoitia 72-61 on Sunday. It was a very good performance for swingman Patricia Vicente (176-98) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Sara Gomez (172-86) contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Cortegada players scored in double figures. Forward Sara Iparragirre (171-98) replied with 24 points and American guard Morgan Green (170-96, college: UC Irvine, agency: Gamble Sports Management) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Rioja. Cortegada moved-up to tenth place. Loser Rioja keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. Cortegada will face higher ranked Barakaldo (#7) in Vizcaya in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Rioja will play against Plasencia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
