Regular Season Round 17: PAOK - AEK 85-87 OT

Sixth-ranked PAOK (8-9) gave a tough game to third ranked AEK (13-4) in Thessaloniki on Saturday. The visitors from Athens managed to secure only two-point victory 87-85. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of PAOK. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-17. But PAOK won second period 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where PAOK used huge pressure winning it 22-17 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 11-13. AEK made 25-of-30 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Americans were the main players on the court. Keith Langford (193-83, college: Kansas) stepped up and scored 16 points and 5 assists for the winners and guard Daryl Macon (190-95, college: Arkansas) chipped in 18 points. Point guard Malcolm Griffin (193-91, college: Fresno Pacific, agency: Higher Vision Sports) responded with 17 points and 7 assists and forward Josh Carter (201-88, college: Texas A&M) scored 27 points. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. The victory was the third consecutive win for AEK. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Lavrio. PAOK at the other side keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. AEK will face Iraklis (#7) in Thessaloniki in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. PAOK's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Thessaloniki to the arena Aris.
