Regular Season Round 20: Martos - La Zubia 79-74

There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Martos (5-10) won against at home higher ranked La Zubia (7-4) 79-74 on Sunday. Martos dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to La Zubia's 26. Martos forced 19 La Zubia turnovers and outrebounded them 46-31 including 31 on the defensive glass. Forward Sergio Melero (190-95) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Argentinian guard Leandro Furlan (193-93) contributed with 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five Martos players scored in double figures. Forward Eloy Almazan (199-84) replied with 17 points and 4 assists and point guard David Garcia (180-93) added 17 points and 4 assists in the effort for La Zubia. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Martos moved-up to ninth place in Group D-A. La Zubia at the other side keeps the fifth position with four games lost. Martos will face higher ranked El Pinar (#3) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
