Regular Season Round 16: Keflavik - KR 75-81

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Keflavik (10-3) at the home court on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by eighth ranked KR (2-12) 81-75. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 81-75. KR outrebounded Keflavik 51-39 including 41 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Finnish forward Annika Holopainen (185-93, college: ODU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds. American point guard Taryn McCutcheon (165, college: Michigan St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Four KR players scored in double figures. KR's coach Francisco Garcia used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. International center Salbjorg Saevarsdottir (185-91) replied with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and Anna Svansdottir (172-1) added 19 points in the effort for Keflavik. KR moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Snaefell. Keflavik at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. KR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena Valur.
