Regular Season Round 29: Gernika - Zaragoza 87-47

Not a big story in a game when 12th ranked Zaragoza (9-18) was rolled over on the road by fourth ranked Gernika (17-9) 87-47 on Saturday. Gernika dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Zaragoza's 30. They outrebounded Zaragoza 39-28 including 25 on the defensive glass. Brazilian center Nadia Colhado (193-89) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and American Margaret Roundtree (183-88, college: Gardner-Webb) chipped in 16 points. Roundtree is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Gernika players scored in double figures. Guard Aina Ayuso (175-99, college: Oregon) responded with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and American-Montenegrin center Markeisha Gatling (196-92, college: NC State) scored 8 points and 8 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gernika maintains fourth place with 17-9 record. Zaragoza lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the twelfth position with 18 games lost. Gernika will face Clarinos (#6) in San Cristobal in the next round. Zaragoza will play at home against Gran Canaria (#9) and hope to win that game.
