Regular Season Round 24: Coruna - GDKO Bizkaia 61-65

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Coruna (7-18) was defeated at home by eighth ranked GDKO Bizkaia (12-12) 65-61 on Saturday. GDKO Bizkaia outrebounded Coruna 36-18 including a 29-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was point guard Juana Molina-Prados (172-91) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Finnish center Helmi Tulonen (189-98, college: Duquesne) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Four GDKO Bizkaia players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Andrea Perez (178-93) who recorded 16 points and 9 rebounds and Portuguese point guard Joana Ferreira (174-90) added 17 points respectively. Coruna's coach Jorge Carreira rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. GDKO Bizkaia moved-up to seventh place. Coruna lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with 18 games lost. GDKO Bizkaia will face higher ranked Rioja (#5) in Azkoitia in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Coruna will play on the road against RC Celta (#3) in Vigo and hope to win that game.
