The most exciting game of round 8 in the A1 took place in Chania. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 4th ranked Giannena (4-2) to third ranked Chania (6-1) 68-66 on Wednesday evening. American Jessica Jackson (192-95, college: Arkansas) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. The other American import guard Erika Bean (173-97, college: Utah) contributed with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Four Chania players scored in double figures. American guard Randi Brown (170-96, college: New Orleans) replied with 27 points and 8 rebounds and forward Stavriani Vintsilaiou (181-98) added 19 points and 8 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) in the effort for Giannena. Chania have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Panathinaikos and Olympiacos. Giannena at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fifth place with two games lost. Chania is looking forward to face Dafni Agioy (#9) in Athens in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Giannena will play at home against Zografou (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
