Regular Season Round 25: Gijon Basket - Culleredo 69-61

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Culleredo (5-8) was defeated on the road by third ranked Gijon Basket (10-4) 69-61 on Saturday. Forward Fernando Fernandez (201-89, college: HLGU, agency: Dynamics Global Management) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and point guard Iago Fernandez (180-1) chipped in 16 points. Gijon Basket's coach Fran Sanchez used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American-British Shawn Shelton (201, college: ENMU) responded with 21 points and 5 rebounds and Jorge Bermudez (187-97) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gijon Basket maintains third place in Group A-C with 10-4 record behind leader Andujar. Loser Culleredo dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. Gijon Basket will face Costa Artraba (#11) in Ferrol in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Culleredo will play at home against Leon and hope to win that game.
