Very important is a road loss of third ranked Nardo (16-5) against twelfth ranked Avellino (8-12) on Sunday night. Visiting Nardo was defeated by Avellino in a tough game in Avellino 79-87. It ended at the same time the 11-game winning streak of Nardo. Avellino dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Nardo's 24. Avellino forced 19 Nardo turnovers. Strangely Nardo outrebounded Avellino 42-29 including 27 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 2 passes made by Nardo's players. The winners were led by Greek-Brazilian forward Dimitris Sousa (198-94, college: UVA Wise) who scored that evening 29 points (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) and Alessandro Marra (193-96) supported him with 17 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Even 26 points by Edoardo Fontana (193-98) did not help to save the game for Nardo. Center Riccardo Bartolozzi (200-95) added 13 points and 13 rebounds for the guests. Four Nardo players scored in double figures. Nardo's coach Gianluca Quarta rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Avellino moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Ragusa and Monfalcone. Loser Nardo keeps the third position with five games lost. Avellino will meet higher ranked Ruvo di Puglia (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Nardo will play against the league's leader Rieti and will have a slim chance for a victory.
