Everything went according to plan when eighth ranked Imola (9-9) edged at home 10th ranked Empoli (8-13) 72-71 on Sunday. Empoli was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Jacopo Preti (200-94) saved the victory by scoring 18 points. Point guard Alessandro Banchi (185-98) contributed with 13 points and 5 assists for the winners. Four Imola players scored in double figures. Point guard Francesco Villa (183-97, agency: SLN) replied with 22 points and 5 rebounds and guard Lorenzo Restelli (195-96) added 9 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Empoli. Imola moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Roma Luiss. Loser Empoli dropped to the ninth position with 13 games lost. Imola will face Firenze (#8) on the road in the next round. Empoli will play against Alba and hope to win that game.
