Regular Season Round 22: Haukar - Keflavik 67-63

Date: May 5, 2021
An interesting game for Haukar (14-6) which hosted in Hafnarfjordur their biggest opponent Keflavik (13-6). Third ranked Haukar managed to get a 4-point victory 67-63. It was a key game for the second position in the league. It looked good early as Keflavik took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Haukar had a 17-4 second period charge getting the lead and Keflavik was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 63-67. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Keflavik to just 4 points in second quarter. Haukar forced 19 Keflavik turnovers and outrebounded them 51-34 including 18 on the offensive glass. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American swingman Alyesha Lovett (183-93, college: Cincinnati) had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Sara Hinriksdottir (185-96, college: Canisius) chipped in 17 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Venezuelan Daniela Wallen (180-95, college: Okla City) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and forward Anna Vignisdottir (176) scored 11 points. Haukar moved-up to second place. Keflavik at the other side dropped to the third position with six games lost. Haukar will play against bottom-ranked KR (#8) in Reykjavik in the next round where they are favorite. Keflavik will play at home against the league's leader Valur (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
