Regular Season Round 23: IR - Njardvik 99-106
Date: May 6, 2021
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Reykjavik where tenth ranked Njardvik (8-13) defeated 9th ranked IR (8-13) 106-99. The guests were ahead by 9 points but lost the second period ending it with a 2-point deficit before their 28-19 run, which allowed them to win the game. Njardvik players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by IR helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Antonio Hester (199-90, college: Mobile, AL) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points and 8 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). Croatian power forward Mario Matasovic (203-93, college: Sacred Heart) contributed with 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Worth to mention Hester played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Five Njardvik players scored in double figures. American point guard Evan Singletary (185-94, college: Albany) answered with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 assists and the other American import guard Everage Richardson (191-85, college: Coastal) added 26 points and 5 assists in the effort for IR. Njardvik moved-up to ninth place, which they share with defeated IR. Njardvik's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Thor Thorl in Thorlakshofn and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
