Regular Season Round 24: Thor AK - Haukar 96-87

There was no surprise in Akureyri where 12th ranked Haukar (6-16) was defeated by eighth ranked Thor AK (10-12) 96-87 on Monday. Haukar trailed by 17 points after 3 quarters before a 23-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 87-96 at the end of the game. Thor AK made 30-of-34 free shots (88.2 percent) during the game, while Haukar only scored ten points from the stripe. Haukar was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Hungarian-Serbian Srdjan Stojanovic (197-91) who scored 27 points and 4 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Spanish forward Ivan Aurrecoechea (203-95, college: NM State) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Italian-Argentinian Pablo Bertone (193-90, college: FAU, agency: Interperformances) who recorded 33 points (!!!) and 5 assists and Irish-American forward Brian Fitzpatrick (202-89, college: Bucknell) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Thor AK moved-up to seventh place. Haukar lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost.
