We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Roma where 25th ranked Biella (2-2) was defeated by twenty sixth ranked SAzzurra RO (2-1) 87-75 on Wednesday. SAzzurra RO dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Biella's 28. They outrebounded Biella 48-22 including a 19-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican-American guard Stephen Thompson Jr (194-97, college: Oregon St.) who had a double-double by scoring 31 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Fabrizio Pugliatti (200-4) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. SAzzurra RO's coach Germano D'Arcangeli allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American swingman Jeffrey Carroll (198-94, college: OK State) produced 26 points and 6 rebounds and Marco Lagana (197-93) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Biella players scored in double figures. SAzzurra RO moved-up to twenty fifth place. Loser Biella dropped to the twenty sixth position with two games lost. SAzzurra RO will face bottom-ranked Bergamo (#27) on the road in the next round.
