There was no surprise when 6th ranked Maccabi Haifa (1-4) was defeated on the road by third ranked H.Beer Sheva (3-1) 85-76 on Monday. The hosts trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-76. H.Beer Sheva outrebounded Maccabi Haifa 40-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. International Spencer Weisz (193-95, college: Princeton) stepped up and scored 15 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and American forward Nick Hornsby (201-95, college: Sacramento St.) chipped in 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Four H.Beer Sheva players scored in double figures. H.Beer Sheva's coach Rami Hadar used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American swingman Chris Dowe (189-91, college: Bellarmine, agency: GoEmpire Group) responded with 24 points and the other American import forward Michael Cobbins (203-92, college: OK State) scored 11 points and 9 rebounds. H.Beer Sheva have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with H.Tel-Aviv and M.Rishon. Loser Maccabi Haifa keeps the sixth position with four games lost. H.Beer Sheva will meet at home Hapoel Tel-Aviv (#4) in the next round. Maccabi Haifa will play against Ironi Nahariya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
