Very expected game when 15th ranked Estudiantes (1-4) lost to leader Avenida (4-0) in Madrid 54-71 on Saturday. Avenida outrebounded Estudiantes 32-19 including 21 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Avenida especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 62.5 percentage. International Maria Cazorla (179-97, college: Oregon) nailed 16 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side and the former international point guard Silvia Dominguez (166-87) accounted for 13 points. Argentinian point guard Melisa Gretter (166-93) came up with 9 points and 4 assists and American guard Arica Carter (173-96, college: Louisville) added 8 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Estudiantes in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Avenida. Defending champion maintains second place with 4-0 record behind leader Cadi La Seu, which they share with Valencia. Estudiantes lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the thirteenth position with four games lost. They share it with IDK Eustotren and Leganes. Avenida will meet at home Zaragoza (#4) in the next round. Estudiantes will play against Gernika (#9) and hope to win that game.
