Regular Season Round 5: Burgos Nissan - Santander 99-71

There was a surprise result when sixteenth ranked Burgos Nissan (1-4) crushed at home higher ranked Santander (1-4) 99-71 on Sunday. They outrebounded Santander 44-30 including 19 on the offensive glass. Burgos Nissan looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Santander's players. Argentinian forward Gonzalo Corbalan (191-2, college: LCU) nailed 35 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and point guard Angel Infante (180-98) accounted for 23 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). David Melero (190-91) came up with 15 points and Diego Ibarlucea (192-0) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Santander in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Burgos Nissan left bottom position moving up to eleventh place in Group A-A, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated Santander. Burgos Nissan will meet league's leader Baskonia B on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Santander will play against the league's second-placed Valle de Egues (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
