Regular Season Round 5: Torta del Casar - Badajoz 53-84

There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Badajoz (1-2) crushed higher ranked Torta del Casar (1-2) in Caceres 84-53 on Sunday. Badajoz dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Torta del Casar's 22. Forward Javier Valeiras (203-98, college: Gannon) nailed a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and Gabriel Perez (-2) accounted for 20 points and 5 rebounds. Four Badajoz players scored in double figures. Forward Juan Santos (196-2) came up with 12 points and Mali Lassena Fofana (-5) added 9 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Torta del Casar in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Badajoz left bottom position moving up to fifth place in Group D-B, which they share with 6 other teams including defeated Torta del Casar. Badajoz will meet at home Portuense (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Torta del Casar will play against Cimbis (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
