Regular Season Round 3: Sassari - Empoli 84-61

Sassari used a home court advantage and smashed the opponent from Empoli 84-61. Sassari dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Empoli's 32. Sassari forced 19 Empoli turnovers and outrebounded them 42-30 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Jessica Shepard (193-96, college: Notre Dame) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 23 rebounds. Her fellow American import guard Maggie Lucas (178-91, college: Penn St.) accounted for 21 points, 6 assists and 5 steals for the winning side. Polish forward Amalia Rembiszewska (191-96) came up with 17 points and 7 rebounds and the former international guard Sara Bocchetti (175-93, agency: Interperformances) added 14 points respectively for Empoli in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sassari will play against Campobasso on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Empoli will play against San Martino (#7) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
