Everything went according to plan when Latvian Liepaja/LSSS (3-1) defeated Estonian Tallina U. (1-2) in Tallinn 70-63 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 70-63. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Maija Gertsone (173-98) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 5 assists. Latvian center Elvija Versele (181-1) accounted for 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Liepaja/LSSS's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Merike Anderson (180-81) came up with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Laina Mesila-Kaarmann (186-87) added 14 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks respectively for Tallina U. in the defeat. Liepaja/LSSS will meet Neptunas (#5) in the next round. Tallina U. will have a break next round.
