Regular Season Round 4: Montana - Celje 77-74

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Slovenian Celje (3-1) on the court of top-ranked Bulgarian Montana. Visitors were edged by Montana 77-74. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Celje. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Celje won third quarter 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Montana won last quarter 21-19. Montana outrebounded Celje 55-31 including a 35-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Celje was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Mariah King (188-90, college: EIU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds. Power forward Dimana Makarieva (188-88) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. American guard Katrina Pardee (175-97, college: WVU) replied with 25 points and 5 rebounds and center Mojca Jelenc (200-3) added 12 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Celje. Five Montana and four Celje players scored in double figures. Montana (5-0) have an impressive five-game winning streak. Newly promoted Montana maintains first position with a perfect record of 5 victories in a row. Defending Slovenian champion Celje keeps the second place with one game lost. Montana will play against Pozega (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Celje will play against Banovici and hopes to get back on the winning track.
