Regular Season Round 8: Trefl - Astoria 81-86
Date: October 24, 2021
There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Enea Astoria (4-4) beat 7th ranked Trefl (4-4) in Sopot 86-81 on Sunday. Enea Astoria forced 22 Trefl turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by forward Jakub Niziol (201-96, college: Cal Poly) who scored that evening 20 points and 6 rebounds and American power forward Alan Herndon (206-94, college: Wyoming) supported him with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Enea Astoria's coach Artur Gronek used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 18 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks by American-British center Josh Sharma (213-95, college: Stanford) did not help to save the game for Trefl. Dutch guard Yannick Franke (197-96) added 19 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Four Enea Astoria and five Trefl players scored in double figures. Enea Astoria moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Trefl. Enea Astoria will meet at home higher ranked Legia (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Trefl will play against WKS Slask in Wroclaw and hope to secure a win.
