Regular Season Round 4: Almeda - Mataro 56-54

A very close game took place in Barcelona between Almeda and Mataro. Ninth ranked Almeda (2-2) got a very close home victory over much higher ranked Mataro (3-1). Almeda managed to escape with a 2-point win 56-54 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Mataro. The winners were led by Marina Avinoa who scored that evening 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Laia Guardia (-1) supported her with 13 points. Even 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists by point guard Ariadna Magrina (164-94) did not help to save the game for Mataro. Center Marta Arbizu (187-91) added 16 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Almeda moved-up to sixth place in Group B, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Mataro dropped to the third position with one game lost. They share it with Girona and Castello. Almeda will meet at home Casablanca (#8) in the next round. Mataro will play against the league's leader Segle XXI (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
