Regular Season Round 3: Patti - Matelica 60-53

There was a minor upset when Matelica (0-2) was defeated on the road by Patti (1-2) 60-53 on Sunday. Patti forced 19 Matelica turnovers. It was a great evening for forward Marta Verona (178-94) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Guard Benedetta DellOrto (166-1) helped adding 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Patti players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Argentinian point guard Debora Gonzalez (170-90, agency: Players Group) with 23 points and 5 steals and point guard Benedetta Gramaccioni (174-98) scored 14 points and 4 steals. Matelica's coach Orazio Cutugno tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Patti will meet San Salvatore (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Matelica will play against Battipaglia (#12) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
