Regular Season Round 5: Pau-Lacq-Orthez - Monaco 66-74

The most shocking disappointment of round 5 was a home defeat of second-ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (3-2) to fourth ranked Monaco (4-1) 74-66. It ended the three-game winning streak of Pau-Lacq-Orthez. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Monaco dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Pau-Lacq-Orthez's 28. Guinean-American forward Alpha Diallo (201-97, college: Providence) stepped up and scored 11 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and Lithuanian center Donatas Motiejunas (213-90) chipped in 15 points. Monaco's coach Zvezdan Mitrovic used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Justin Bibbins (178-96, college: Utah) responded with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and naturalized Congolese Giovan Oniangue (196-91) scored 9 points and 6 rebounds. Monaco have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Levallois and ASVEL. Pau-Lacq-Orthez at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Monaco is looking forward to face Paris (#17) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Pau-Lacq-Orthez will play against SIG Strasbourg (#9) and is hoping to win this game.
