Regular Season Round 5: Zagreb - Split 66-50

There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Zagreb (2-3) beat at home 7th ranked Split (2-3) 66-50. Zagreb dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Split's 26. Zagreb forced 23 Split turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Zagreb brought some defensive toughness making 11 blocks. Guard Rezo Blazenka (176-96) stepped up and scored 8 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for the winners and guard Gabriela Grizelj (172-1) chipped in 10 points and 5 assists. Center Lea Marsic (184-3) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 16 rebounds and power forward Ana Vrsaljko (188-84) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Zagreb moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Split and FSV Rijeka. Zagreb will play against higher ranked Pula (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Split will play against the league's second-placed Tresnjevka and will have a slim chance for a victory.
