Regular Season Round 7: Gijon Basket - Marin 71-63

There was a surprise result when fifteenth ranked Gijon Basket (1-6) won against at home higher ranked Marin (3-4) 71-63 on Saturday. Gijon Basket forced 23 Marin turnovers. Strangely Marin outrebounded Gijon Basket 42-26 including a 33-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American forward Mateo Sanchez (198, college: Hood) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Fernando Fernandez (201-89, college: HLGU) helped adding 19 points and 6 rebounds. Gijon Basket's coach Fran Sanchez used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Daniel Fernandez responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists and American forward Dramel Hogan (194, college: Rochester, MI) scored 18 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Gijon Basket left bottom position moving up to fourteenth place in Group A-B. Newly promoted Marin dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. They share it with Betanzos and Culleredo. Gijon Basket will meet higher ranked Culleredo (#10) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Marin will play against Ourense and hope to secure a win.
