Regular Season Round 5: Cantu - Mantova 83-81

A very close game took place in Cantu between Cantu and Mantova. Leader Cantu (5-0) got a very close home victory over second-ranked Mantova (4-1). Cantu managed to escape with a 2-point win 83-81 in the fight for the first place. It was a key game for the top position in A2. Cantu made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game, while Mantova only scored seven points from the stripe. American guard Robert Johnson (192-95, college: Indiana) stepped up and scored 23 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners and naturalized Cameroonian power forward Philippe Bayehe (203-99) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Cantu's coach Marco Sodini used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Serbian swingman Vojislav Stojanovic (199-97) responded with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and Marco Lagana (197-93) scored 21 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cantu maintains first place in A2 with 5-0 record. Loser Mantova keeps the second position with one game lost. Cantu will meet Trapani (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mantova will play against Piacenza (#6) and hope to secure a win.
