Regular Season Round 9: Avignon/Pontet - Besancon 84-78

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both twelfth ranked Avignon/Pontet and 13th ranked Besancon had identical 2-6 record. This time Avignon/Pontet used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Besancon 84-78 on Tuesday night. Avignon/Pontet dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Besancon's 32. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Geoffrey Bourcier (183-88) who scored 17 points, 7 assists and 6 steals. DR Congolese-Canadian forward Eric Kibi (198-90, college: ACU) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. Four Avignon/Pontet players scored in double figures. Avignon/Pontet (3-6) moved-up to eleventh place in Group B. Besancon lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with seven games lost. They share it with Pole France. Avignon/Pontet will meet at home higher ranked Orchesien BC (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Besancon will play against Mulhouse (#4) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
