Very expected game when 10th ranked Nokia (3-6) was defeated at home by third ranked Kouvot (7-2) 83-77 on Saturday. Nokia trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 25-19 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 77-83 at the end of the game. Strangely Nokia outrebounded Kouvot 44-31 including 18 on the offensive glass. American guard Deshon Taylor (188-96, college: Fresno St.) stepped up and scored 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and the former international point guard Tuomas Hirvonen (181-96) chipped in 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Kouvot players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard Kahron Ross (180-95, college: Lehigh, agency: One Motive Sports) with 25 points and 5 assists and Puerto Rican power forward Arnaldo Toro (203-97, college: St.John's) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 17 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for Kouvot. They maintain third place with 7-2 record behind leader Seagulls. Nokia at the other side keeps the tenth position with six games lost. Kouvot will meet at home KTP Basket (#4) in the next round. Nokia will play against Bisons (#11) in Loimaa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
