Regular Season Round 5: Carbajosa - Zornotza 69-82

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Carbajosa (1-4) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Zornotza (4-1) 82-69 on Saturday. Zornotza had a 24-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Forward Borja Mendia (200-94) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and American guard Joe Cremo (193-96, college: Villanova) chipped in 13 points and 5 assists. Guard Josep Peris (192-0) responded with 12 points and forward Juan Pedro Jimenez (202-97) scored 15 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Carbajosa's coach Sergio Vicente rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Zornotza moved-up to fourth place in Silver. Loser Carbajosa keeps the eleventh position with four games lost. Zornotza will meet at home higher ranked Ponferrada (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Carbajosa will play against Navarra (#14) in Pamplona and hope to win that game.
