Regular Season Round 9: Seagulls - Kauhajoki 84-75

The biggest surprise took place in Helsinki where host Seagulls (8-1) beat league's leader Kauhajoki (8-1) 84-75 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Kauhajoki. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Kauhajoki trailed by 13 points at halftime and as many as 16 after three quarters before a 21-14 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 75-84 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Zaccheus Darko-Kelly (198-97, college: Providence, MT) who scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. The former international Petteri Koponen (194-88) chipped in 21 points and 4 assists. Four Seagulls players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was international Henri Kantonen (198-97, agency: Blacktop Management) who recorded 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV, agency: Blacktop Management) added 9 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Seagulls have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with defeated Kauhajoki. Kauhajoki will play next round against Kataja trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Seagulls will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Vilpas in Salo.
