Regular Season Round 5: Kouvot - HNMKY 78-73

There was no surprise in Kouvola where 7th ranked HNMKY (1-3) was defeated by third ranked Kouvot (4-1) 78-73 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 15 points at the halftime before their 52-32 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Kouvot forced 20 HNMKY turnovers. Point guard Daniel Rantapaju (182-4) stepped up and scored 29 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and forward Teemu Kristeri (195-2) chipped in 25 points and 11 rebounds. Four Kouvot players scored in double figures. Center Henri Mennander (204-3) responded with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds and point guard Lenni Hervola (179-3) scored 13 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Kouvot have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. HNMKY lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. Kouvot will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. HNMKY will play against the league's leader Pyrinto (#1) and hope to win that game.
