Regular Season Round 5: PuHu - Vilpas 67-66

Bottom-ranked Vilpas (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 67-66 loss to seventh ranked PuHu (2-2) in Vantaa on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Vilpas won third quarter 17-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. PuHu forced 22 Vilpas turnovers. Forward Thomas Ronnholm (197-3) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and center Valtteri Heiskanen (197-4) chipped in 13 points. Center Onni Makynen (198-4) responded with 9 points and 16 rebounds and guard Tuukka Juntunen (193-4) scored 13 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. PuHu moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Raiders. Loser Vilpas still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Kataja. PuHu will meet higher ranked Honka (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vilpas will play against Raiders (#5) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
