Regular Season Round 8: Valle de Egues - Mondragon 72-74

Not a big story in a game when 6th ranked Valle de Egues (4-4) was edged by fourth ranked Mondragon (6-2) in Olaz 74-72 on Sunday. The winners were led by point guard Daniel Lorenzo (181-93) who scored that evening 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and guard Martxel Balanzategui (191-92) supported him with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Even a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds by power forward Javier Lacunza (203-94, college: FAU) did not help to save the game for Valle de Egues. Ivorian power forward Kouassi Konan (203-91) added 17 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Mondragon have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place in Group A-A, which they share with Baskonia B. Valle de Egues lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Solares. Mondragon will meet Burgos Nissan (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Valle de Egues will play against the league's second-placed Santurtzi and hope to secure a win.
