Regular Season Round 7: Fjolnir - Hamar 109-77

There was a minor upset in Reykjavik where 7th ranked Hamar (2-5) was crushed by ninth ranked Fjolnir (2-5) 109-77 on Sunday. Fjolnir dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Hamar's 34. Fjolnir forced 21 Hamar turnovers and outrebounded them 49-32 including a 37-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Hamar's players. Slovenian point guard Mirza Sarajlija (187-91) fired 23 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Center Olafur Styrmisson (198-3) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Four Fjolnir players scored in double figures. Fjolnir's coach Halldor Thorsson felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Dee Franklin (196-92, college: FVSU) produced 27 points and 8 rebounds and Portuguese Joao Lucas (195-96) added 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Fjolnir moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated Hamar. Fjolnir will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hamar will play against the league's second-placed Haukar (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
