Regular Season Round 5: Akademik P. - TFT 81-86

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked North Macedonian TFT as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Group B. TFT defeated 12th ranked Bulgarian Akademik P. in Plovdiv 86-81. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in Group B. Strangely Akademik P. outrebounded TFT 36-19 including a 15-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Akademik P. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Power forward Andrej Maslinko (208-97, agency: BeoBasket) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points and 6 rebounds. Point guard Aleksandar Kostoski (186-88, agency: BIG) contributed with 12 points and 9 assists for the winners. TFT's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American power forward Tony Gugino (207-86, college: Hillsdale) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Nikolay Nikolov (196-94) added 17 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Akademik P.Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. TFT have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Akademik P. at the other side still keeps top place with one game lost. Akademik P. will play next round against I.Nahariya trying to get back on the winning streak. TFT will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Ibar in Rozaje.
