Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Reykjavik: Valur (#6) and IR (#11). Valur (4-2) won against visiting IR (1-5) 92-79. The game was mostly controlled by Valur. IR managed to win fourth quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to IR's 32. Valur looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international guard Kari Jonsson (192-97, college: Drexel) scored 29 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Kristofer Acox (200-93, college: Furman) chipped in 12 points and 15 rebounds during the contest. Four Valur players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Collin Pryor (200-90, college: Northern St., agency: Mansfield and Associates) with 19 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and forward Sigvaldi Eggertsson (201-0) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Valur have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with KR. Loser IR dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. They share it with Breidablik and Vestri. Valur will meet higher ranked Keflavik (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. IR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik KR.
