Regular Season Round 9: Gijon Basket - Univ.Valladolid 71-76

There was no surprise when 13th ranked Gijon Basket (2-7) was defeated at home by tenth ranked Univ.Valladolid (5-4) 76-71 on Saturday. Univ.Valladolid dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Gijon Basket's 26. The best player for the winners was forward Alberto Garcia (196-99) who scored 22 points. Power forward Alvaro Encinas (202-94) chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Mateo Sanchez (198, college: Hood) who recorded 18 points and 5 rebounds and forward Diego Sanchez (198-78) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Univ.Valladolid moved-up to seventh place in Group A-B. Gijon Basket at the other side stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. They share it with Ourense. Univ.Valladolid will meet at home Ourense (#14) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gijon Basket will play against the league's leader La Antigua where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
