Regular Season Round 6: Matelica - Nico Basket 71-59

Not a big story in a game when 14th ranked Nico Basket (1-5) was defeated on the road by tenth ranked Matelica (2-2) 71-59 on Saturday. Strangely Nico Basket outrebounded Matelica 49-36 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was point guard Benedetta Gramaccioni (174-98) who scored 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (perfect from downtown making all five shots). Power forward Claudia Pallotta (182-99) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Five Matelica players scored in double figures. Matelica's coach Orazio Cutugno allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Chiara Bacchini (180-98, college: Quinnipiac) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds and forward Caterina Mattera (185-1) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Matelica moved-up to eighth place in A2. Loser Nico Basket keeps the fourteenth position with five games lost. Matelica will meet higher ranked Vigarano (#7) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Nico Basket will play against Capri (#11) and hope to win that game.
