Regular Season Round 7: Panathinaikos - AEK 100-75
Date: November 13, 2021
The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Panathinaikos (#4) and AEK (#7). Panathinaikos (5-1) crushed visiting AEK (3-4) by 25 points 100-75. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. AEK managed to win fourth quarter 22-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Panathinaikos looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for the former international forward Ioannis Papapetrou (203-94, college: Texas) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 5 rebounds. American guard Daryl Macon (190-95, college: Arkansas) helped adding 14 points and 6 assists. Five Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Eric Griffin (203-90, college: Campbell) responded with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks and the former international guard Nikos Pappas (195-90, agency: Network Sports International) scored 14 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Panathinaikos have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place. AEK at the other side dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Aris. Panathinaikos are looking forward to face league's leader Olympiacos in Pireus in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. AEK will play on the road against Lavrio (#5) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
