There was an upset when higher ranked Trieste (5-3) lost at home to fifteenth ranked Varese (2-6) 86-70 on Sunday. The winners were led by the former international swingman Alessandro Gentile (201-92, agency: SLN) who scored that evening 23 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Syrian-American point guard George Kell III (193-96, college: SDSU, agency: Slash Sports) supported him with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Four Varese players scored in double figures. Even 20 points by naturalized Argentinian guard Juan Fernandez (193-90, college: Temple) did not help to save the game for Trieste. Naturalized Argentinian center Marcos Delia (209-92, agency: Players Group) added 12 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Trieste's coach Franco Ciani tested eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Varese moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Fortitudo BO. Loser Trieste keeps the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Trento and Treviso. Varese will meet at home higher ranked Tortona (#9) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Trieste will play against Venezia (#8) and hope to secure a win.
