There was a surprise result when fifteenth ranked Bembibre (2-6) won against higher ranked Gran Canaria (3-5) in Las Palmas 52-48 on Thursday. Strangely Gran Canaria outrebounded Bembibre 43-31 including 31 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by Estonian forward Kadri-Ann Lass (190-96, college: Duquesne) who scored that evening 5 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Amber Melgoza (178-98, college: Washington) supported her with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Bembibre's coach Pepe Vazquez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds by Mali power forward Sika Kone (190-2) did not help to save the game for Gran Canaria. American swingman Maya Caldwell (180-98, college: Georgia, agency: Shark Sports Management) added 13 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Bembibre moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Gran Canaria keeps the ninth position with five games lost. They share it with Ensino and IDK Eustotren. Bembibre will meet at home Clarinos (#13) in the next round. Gran Canaria will play against Promete (#8) in Logrono and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
