There was a minor upset when 10th ranked Almansa (4-5) was edged at home by thirteenth ranked Alicante (4-5) 73-72 on Saturday. Alicante made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. American Gerel Simmons (188-93, college: LMU, agency: Duran International) stepped up and scored 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and Croatian swingman Fran Pilepic (193-89) chipped in 17 points. The best for the losing side was American-Dominican Eddy Polanco (190-94, college: SE Louisiana) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and Haitian-Canadian forward Kevin Bercy (201-94, college: St.Francis X.) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Alicante moved-up to tenth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Almansa. Alicante will meet at home Caceres (#11) in the next round. Almansa will play against Juaristi ISB in Azpeitia and hope to secure a win.
