Very expected game when 6th ranked Zaragoza (5-4) was defeated on the road by second ranked Valencia (8-1) 71-59 on Sunday. Valencia looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was German center Marie Guelich (194-94, college: Oregon St.) who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. The former international guard Leticia Romero (173-95, college: FSU) chipped in 18 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Vega Gimeno (185-91, college: RMU) who recorded 23 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Merritt Hempe (190-94, college: Georgia) added 11 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Valencia maintains second place with 8-1 record behind leader Avenida. Loser Zaragoza dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Valencia will meet Cadi La Seu (#4) in the next round. Zaragoza will play against Ferrol and hope to secure a win.
