Regular Season Round 9: Almeria - Arxil 65-45

There was a change at the LF2 leadership position after last games. Round 9 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Arxil (8-1). They were crushed by second ranked Almeria (8-1) 65-45 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Arxil. It was a key game for the top position in Group A. Almeria held Arxil to an opponent 22.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 41.7 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Arxil 44-29 including a 29-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Irene Garrido (185-97, college: Minnesota) stepped up and scored 19 points for the winners and center Lucia Mendez (182-88) chipped in 9 points and 11 rebounds. Almeria's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Serbian guard Dunja Buzadzin (176-94) with 14 points and Guyanese Ruth Adams (-96) scored 11 points. Almeria have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of Group A leader, which they share with defeated Arxil. Arxil will play next round against Coruna trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Almeria will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Rosalia in Santiago de Compostela.
