Everything went according to plan when fourteenth ranked Gijon Basket (3-8) outplayed at home bottom-ranked Claret (0-11) 85-49 on Saturday. Gijon Basket shot 22 for 30 from the free-throw line, while Claret only scored six points from the stripe. Gijon Basket forced 20 Claret turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Mateo Sanchez (198, college: Hood) who led the winners and scored 20 points and 6 rebounds. Belgian forward Benjamin Janssens (197-98, agency: Promo Sport ID) accounted for 10 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side. Four Gijon Basket players scored in double figures. Gijon Basket's coach Fran Sanchez felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gerard Mejias (200) came up with 17 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Miguel Perez (182-1) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Claret in the defeat. Gijon Basket moved-up to thirteenth place in Group A-B, which they share with Ourense. Claret lost their eleventh game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Gijon Basket will meet Oviedo 2 (#15) on the road in the next round. Claret will play against Avila and hopes to get finally their first victory.
