Regular Season Round 8: Nico Basket - Patti 85-72

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 11th ranked Patti (2-5) lost to twelfth ranked Nico Basket (3-5) in Ponte Buggianese 72-85 on Saturday. Nico Basket forced 20 Patti turnovers and outrebounded them 35-22 including 26 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by point guard Simona Giglio Tos (163-90) who scored that evening 24 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and guard Chiara Bacchini (180-98, college: Quinnipiac) supported her with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Nico Basket players scored in double figures. Nico Basket's coach Francesco Nieddu used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 17 points and 7 rebounds by forward Marta Verona (178-94) did not help to save the game for Patti. Naturalized Serbian guard Milica Micovic (180-84) added 17 points for the guests. Nico Basket moved-up to tenth place in A2. Loser Patti dropped to the thirteenth position with five games lost. Nico Basket will meet Cagliari (#12) on the road in the next round. Patti will play against Firenze and hope to secure a win.
