There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Avila (4-7) crushed at home higher ranked Univ.Valladolid (5-6) 91-61 on Saturday. Avila had a 37-26 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Univ.Valladolid's players. It was an exceptional evening for naturalized Argentinian Ezequiel Herrera (185-96) who led the winners and scored 25 points. Senegalese center Daouda NDiaye (213-96, college: SUU) accounted for 15 points and 15 rebounds for the winning side. Four Avila players scored in double figures. Forward Alberto Garcia (196-99) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and power forward Alvaro Encinas (202-94) added 22 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Univ.Valladolid in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Avila moved-up to twelfth place in Group A-B. Loser Univ.Valladolid keeps the eighth position with six games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Avila will meet at home Claret (#16) in the next round. Univ.Valladolid will play against La Flecha (#9) in Arroyo Encomienda and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
