We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Riga where 4th ranked Ridzene (2-1) was crushed by fifth ranked BJBS R/J (4-3) 74-50 on Thursday. The game without a history. BJBS R/J led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Ridzene's 26. BJBS R/J forced 28 Ridzene turnovers and outrebounded them 65-44 including a 31-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Center Liene Jansone (192-81, college: Siena) had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Elina Krupina (165-4) chipped in 14 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals during the contest. Four BJBS R/J players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Latvian guard Elina Briede (167-5) with 6 points and 8 rebounds and guard Aleksandra Stepanova (167-5) scored 7 points and 4 steals. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. BJBS R/J moved-up to fourth place. Loser Ridzene dropped to the sixth position with one game lost.
